Pen to paper

There has been an ongoing struggle in my head about how to get the pen on the paper. Why? Scared? Not sure what to draw? I realized that I liked my random folks project and thought I would start there. However, what I really need is some guidance... Specifically a mentor. This is why I think the Mentor Makers conference would be perfect!

Can @makermentors help?

Bird House!

I am lucky enough to be a part of building a birdhouse AGAIN! This will be my fourth birdhouse. My illustrations tend to be based on sea creatures or the ocean (maybe because I am a Pisces?). I've built a fish tank, lighthouse, and beach fishing cabin. This year I am going back to my Norwegian roots. A few years back I took a trip to Norway and visited the Kon-Tiki museum. If you don't know about the Kon-Tiki, take a look here.  It is a pretty amazing story for the time and the ship they chose to sail. For my birdhouse, I am building the Kon-Tweety.

Margaret Kilgallen

I am currently finishing up an iMovie class... yes iMovie! It is more difficult and not as intuitive as I thought. This might be because I know a little bit about Final Cut Pro. Regardless, part of my assignment was to create a lesson for students. For my lesson, I wanted students to choose one of their favorite artists and create a movie that included their history, images, video clips and examples of their interpretation of the artist's style. For my example, I chose Margaret Kilgallen. She has long since been my favorite artist. I love the simplicity in her work and who she chooses as subjects. This class gave me the opportunity to revisit her work and remember a woman whose potential was cut short. I continue to be inspired by her.

Design Like Mad!

I was lucky enough to be a part of a volunteer opportunity to help a local nonprofit with some of their design. We met at 8:30am on a Saturday at PCC Sylvania and "Designed Like Mad" for 12 hours! My team worked with the Media Institute for Social Change to create logos and an advertising campaign that they can run in publications like Artslandia. It was a fun, creative opportunity to help this organization with some much needed marketing collateral.

Safari Heads & Tails Game

Just added this game to my shop... take a look! My son loves looking at the animals and matching the heads with their tails.

My love of paper

My love for paper started when I was a kid, probably kindergarten age. I loved everything about an office and office supplies… especially the paper. I grew up in a farm town and strangely there was a big paper store a few miles from my house. My parents took me there all the time. You could buy paper by the pound and envelopes for pennies a piece. Back then they had so many great deals for a young girl with little money. I would buy stacks of colored paper and mix and match envelopes. I wrote a lot of letters back then, so having a big supply of pretty paper was a necessity. I have since moved away. The store has changed over the years and appeals to the masses and tends to be overcrowded. They've expanded their products, regardless, I can't help but go there every time I go home, just to flip through the boxes of paper and envelopes.  I always buy something, even if I don't need it... dreaming of a future project.
